The quieter hazard

Every quote, every standards call, every conflict meeting comes across your desk. The judgement that took decades to build lives in your head. So the firm runs a photocopy of yesterday, and the next ten years repeat the last ten.

For decades my job was keeping people alive near high voltage. Touch voltage, step voltage, lightning. Hazards nobody can see. The design has to be right before anyone walks across that ground. I protect life against the harmful effects of high voltage. That is still the job.

My purpose is to save at least one life before I die. Everything I do leads towards a life I will never actually see saved.

In 2020 I raced across the Southern Ocean, 58 knots gusting 70, to raise money to help save a child's life. I will never meet that child.
